Topic Discussion 4 - Internet as a truth? Maybe.

Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it? Maybe. Well it's depends. Yeah the internet can be use for anybody and anybody can pretty use it. So yeah maybe some of the information can be manipulated but I think that the Wikipedia can be trusted, with accuracy of the information is 90% true. Come on, think again. If the internet can't be trusted, isn't book, TV and radio can be same? The only reason why I can believe some of the internet information is that it is free from control of company. You may heard from the newspaper, we can check in the internet is it true or not because if the event really occurred then there must be witnesses. Then the witnesses write it up in their blog or what so ever and put picture of that event. Well even so we have picture to back up our information that we found, we can't completely believe what do we see. With current technology such as Photoshop, picture can be edited and manipulated they way you want with realistic picture. So yeah, eyes can fool you. To believe the Internet or not, that have to depend on your experience and don't just simply believe everything. Good judgment is a need.

TOPIC DISCUSSION 4 - INTERNET = TRUTH??

Do i offen take what is on the internet as truth without thinking much about it?
the answer is no, most of the info in the internet were writen by the user or fan not the
owner.
example Alexander Grahambell who are the one who make the first phone,
did he write the info of his phone on the website??
although it was in wikipedia is a world wide encyclopedia, it not

100% true because some of it were written by a fan or a normal consumer like me
who wrote it without a much research and just want to share with other people
in my opinion, i will search more article from the other source
about it and make my own decision to believe or not to believe

Topic Discussion 4: Do you often take what is on the Internet as truth without thinking much about it?

In my opinion, I would rather say no. Reasons?
Nowadays, news can be spread fast and far easily like wildfire. Plus with the advance of technology in media we have today, just one click via internet and the news can be spread through-out the world by few seconds. Its hard to know which is false and truth about news, article and etc on the internet since it could be from anyone and from anywhere. Sometimes, people wrote an article does not leave his/her name and left it as anonymous which is rather mysterious and hard for the reader to believe. Even so, articles which are not posted on an official site eventhou the writer leave a name, I would still try not to believe it. Unless if an article came from an official news site, it would be a different story.

Discussion 4: Internet's Believing

How often I took what is on the internet as truth without thinking much about it?...my answer is none. The reason why I say none, because internet can come from anywhere. Every source that from internet can be added by everyone. The easiest example that we can get is from social media like facebook. Trough social media like facebook people can spread any news whether is the truth or even a fake news.

Not only that, on the internet, people can published false statement that damages a person’s reputation. By spreading the false statement it can make people confused or dissatisfaction about something that they don’t get it. People can twist the story or even they make up the story. I’ve read one article that internet can make people in fight with each other because of the make up story.

To me what is on the internet its our self conscious to believe or ignore what is on the internet is whether true or not. For me, the best way is wait till I read the newspaper, than I will believe the news that come from newspaper.

Topic Discussion 4 - The Truth and Lies In The Internet

Nowadays, internet is used almost by everyone. People use it to gain information, for their entertainment and much much more. The internet can be used by anyone so there are alot of things posted or stated in the internet. People will tend to believe and take what is on the internet as the truth without thinking much about it. For me, i don't tend to believe anything stated in the internet because we can't be sure where the source is from. Nowadays, even a 1 year old kid or a crazy old person can use the internet and they can say and manipulate people or spread rumors just by using the internet. There are even imposters and stalkers in the internet world and they can hack or change any information stated in the web. This can also be very dangerous because there is this one case i read in the newspaper where there is this sex offender using the facebook to lure a girl and raped and killed her.

We must be very carefull of what we read and rather to belive it or not because not everything in the web is true and can be harmfull.

Topic Discussion 3: Irish Stereotypes

First of all, what is stereotypes?
Stereotype is a commonly held public belief about specific social groups, or types of individuals. The concepts of "stereotype" and "prejudice" are often confused with many other different meanings. Stereotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of groups, based on some prior assumptions. Generally speaking, these "stereotypes" are not based on objective truth, but rather subjective and often unverifiable content-matter.

I've seen few of stereotypes movies, mostly about Arabs and American. But upon doing the research about stereotypes, I found about Irish stereotypes which I never realize in details before. So I did a research about it and I found that there's Irish stereotypes in American famous series cartoon; The Simpsons.

Weirdly, I've been watching The Simpsons ever since I was a kid and still watching till today. But, I never realize that there's a stereotype(Irish stereotypes) used in the cartoon.

What's Irish Stereotypes are about?
Irish stereotypes are pictured as a ruddy-haired alcoholics and abusers who love to fight, the typical Irish American cop, and the disgruntled Irishman at the bar. The Irish is labeled as quick-tempered brawlers and alcoholics. This is commonly used in the cartoon; The Simpsons. Not only that, it is used commonly in a lots of movies as well.

History of Irish Stereotypes

Irish stereotypes began around 19th century..

During this time, many Irish immigrants came to the United States. Darwin's Theory of Evolution was a prevalent topic of the day. The struggle for labor between immigrants resulted in violence and discrimination

Back in the 19th century, many people viewed the Irish as an "other" or different race from other white people. 19th century cartoons portrayed the Irish as ape-like and racially primitive. Darwin's Theory of Evolution seemed to explain that the Irish were of a lower life form, not up to the par with the more intellectual white Americans. The Irish were seen as brash, hostile, angry -- all characteristics of a more primitive human form.

Around the same time, a labor struggle existed between Irish Americans and the freed African American slaves. The Irish clung to their occupations fiercely, blocking the attempts of newer immigrants or African Americans to enter them, and earning them a reputation for violence. After 1860, there were several Irish songs about employment advertisements reading, "Irish need not apply", which are now referred to as "the NINA signs." The songs had a deep impact on the Irish sense of discrimination.
